THE QUEENS CHAPEL
Client:

The Royal Household

Value:

External Refurbishment £400,000

Internal Refurbishment £400,000

Project Description:

The Queens Chapel has its origins from the 17th Century, is attributed to Inigo Jones and is located across the road from St. James Palace.  The brief for the project was prompted by the need to replace failing leadwork on the weathering faces of the gable copings together with re-fixing of slipping slates.

A fully independent scaffold and weather enclosure was required to protect this Grade 1 Listed building, therefore to take full advantage of this costly scaffold it was considered prudent to embark on a thorough external repair project.

Key Features:

Huntley Cartwright were appointed to provide full Quantity Surveying services.  The external repair contract was procured on a traditional basis and let to Mowlem. The internal refurbishment required works to be undertaken by a number of specialist trade subcontractors such as fibrous plaster, joinery, specialist decorations, gilding, and glazing.  The internal works were procured on a Construction Management basis using Wallis as the Construction Manager.
