Often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of the UK,” the Grade I Listed Painted Hall underwent a £10.5m restoration, including conservation of 3,400m² of Baroque murals, environmental stabilisation, and upgraded lighting and visitor facilities. A new accessible reception, retail space, and café were created in the Undercroft, while innovative scaffolding allowed public tours during the works. The project was completed on time and on budget within this sensitive World Heritage Site.
