Ian's story...

After some slightly disappointing A-level results, I was fortunate to join Huntley Cartwright in 1989, completing a day release degree at LSBU (with whom we still have a strong relationship). After graduation I realised a long-held ambition to travel; returning to the UK two years later. I then resumed my career at Huntley Cartwright where am now one of four equity partners.

What was good about this route?

The ability to learn and earn was the main attraction. This is now recognised with the introduction of the RICS degree apprenticeship which is a fantastic route into a really rewarding industry and profession.

Why did this route appeal to you?

No student debt and after 3 years…a company car!

Why did you choose Huntley Cartwright?

I was introduced to the company by a fellow student at LSBU, meeting Terry and Chris, the founding partners, something clicked. We had the same outlook, sense of humour, a desire to get things done, to do our best, take pride and enjoy our work. We have been fortunate to help deliver some fantastic and interesting projects, which keeps the enthusiasm high. As the saying goes…every day’s a school day and there is always something to still learn!

Advice for others choosing this route?

Think carefully, it will take 6 – 7 years to become qualified but, once you are; the rewards and opportunities are amazing.
