Huntley Cartwright acted as project manager and quantity surveyor for the new Children's Centre and Nursery.  Building on a restricted, busy, occupied site involved careful coordination with site users and the diversion and extension of all utility services.

The award winning design utilised a timber-framed extension.  Substantial re-planning was required to accommodate multi-agency and community use and to provide a new covered play and learning space.  The completed project is used by many different sections of the local community.

Lancing, West Sussex

The project brief for a new arts facility within the grounds of Grade I listed buildings provided an architectural challenge, as well as addressing the location of the building within the listed surroundings.

Rather than mimic the adjacent college an imposing gothic chapel, the arts building is a complete contrast; a strikingly modern arrangement of cantilevered cubes set high into the hillside.  The new building provides arts accommodation including a photography area, general workspaces, lecture theatre and glazed atrium/display area.

Our quantity surveying service included extensive value engineering focussing on heating installations.  With our advice the full project was achieved within budget.  The feature elevations and wide spanning space have created a stunning update in a historic setting.

Our portfolio includes projects covering all aspects of education from nursery through to post graduate study.  We work for public and private educators delivering refurbishment and new build schemes ranging from modest extensions to cutting edge new campuses.

St Mary's and St Peter's School

University of Surrey

Huntley Cartwright provided quantity surveying and employer’s agent services for the construction of a new purpose-built Innovation Centre for Communications Systems Research.

The building has three floors with each floor being approximately 1,000 square metres.  The building contains research offices, space for visiting industrial scientists and researchers, laboratories, development and general support space.

The building is steel framed with piled foundations.  The design principles embody sustainable and economic life cycle elements to ensure that the building meets the BREEAM target of ‘excellent’ and has a low carbon footprint.  It has its own boiler and cooling plant.  The design was developed to incorporate natural cooling as much as possible and a selection of renewable technologies reducing carbon impact.

Teddington, Greater London

This project involved the extension and refurbishment of an existing two form entry primary school to accommodate a three form entry.  The work involved extensive remodelling and expansion works, which were phased to allow the school to remain operational for the duration of the works.

The works were procured using a single stage tender and let under a design and build contract.

Huntley Cartwright was appointed as quantity surveyor and employer’s agent, simplifying the phasing and specification to deliver the scheme within budget.
