Gill Avenue Junction
OTHER PROJECTS
Here we have included a selection of medical, industrial, civil engineering and marine works projects, in which we have also played an integral role.
RNLI OBAN
Scotland
This project was for the RNLI and involved the replacement of the existing lifeboat berth, a slippery concrete ramp and ladder, with a new steel pontoon accessed via a linkspan structure.
MINSTER SURGERY
Thanet, Kent
This is a new purpose built two-storey surgery. It provides 14 new consulting rooms, treatment and minor operation rooms, as well as administrative accommodation with an office and meeting space for visiting health professionals. There is also a new car park.
Huntley Cartwright was engaged to provide quantity surveying services. The procurement route was traditional, including bills of quantities.
GILL AVENUE JUNCTION
University of Surrey
The project involved the redevelopment of a busy roundabout junction to a new signalised junction.
The scheme involved partial widening and re-grading of the local authority adopted highway, entailing diversion of utility services and a complex drainage solution, in addition to more minor works in the adjacent private roads, footpaths and car parks.
In addition, to providing quantity surveying services Huntley Cartwright provided a lead role in the detailed presentation and evaluation of the tender and NEC3 contract documents. We reported full project expenditure to the client throughout.
KNAUF FACTORY
Sittingbourne, Kent
A major European plasterboard manufacturer first established a UK presence in Kent. This factory has a one-kilometre long production line and the length of the building dictated the speed of the line due to the time taken for the initial set of wet plaster. The project produced its own foundation challenges as the overlying ground was peat.
Huntley Cartwright provided quantity surveying services for a construction management contract. Following the success of this first commission, Huntley Cartwright went on to provide quantity surveying services for two further board manufacturing plants at Immingham and Knutsford.
O2 MASTS
London and South East
Huntley Cartwright provided quantity surveying services in the construction and upgrade of O2 mobile phone base stations in London and the South East of England.
Huntley Cartwright have worked on most site types including greenfield, rooftop, stealth and micro cells. We are fully conversant with the restrictions and problems involved in installing base stations at ever greater densities or at sites with stringent planning requirements.
5G MASTS
University of Surrey
Huntley Cartwright provided quantity surveying and employer’s agent services for the construction of the new purpose-built Innovation Centre for Communications Systems Research at the University of Surrey.
Along with the new building, the project also included an array of communication masts erected across the university campus to test and trial the communication research.

MASTERPLANNING
The creation of a masterplan establishes a framework within which a project will be expected to develop. At Huntley Cartwright we have extensive experience in supporting our clients through the creation of detailed masterplans and managing cost.
As proficient quantity surveyors we are able to manage the appointment and payment of consultants/specialists, provide cost data for infrastructure works and carry out feasibility studies during the planning stage.
Currently Huntley Cartwright is supporting the University of Surrey in its plans to make an application to Guildford Borough Council for the development of approximately 1,800 homes, a retail and village centre, a primary school and infrastructure on Blackwell Farm.
Huntley Cartwright is also providing quantity surveying services for masterplanning at Kings Hill, a former WWII airfield, where a business park, retail centre, leisure facilities and over 2,000 homes are being developed.
Other masterplanning projects have included:
-
Shopwyke Lakes (pictured), a 400-dwelling mixed-use community;
-
Manor Park, University of Surrey, a development site for over 3 million square feet of academic, research, residential, and sports spaces.
